Choosing the Right Eyewash

Eyewash

Eyesight is a valuable and complex sense and your attention should be drawn to the fact that the vast majority of eye injuries are preventable. Irrigation of the eye can prevent serious permanent injury to the eye following an accident or incident.

Eyewash is an essential first aid supply in any environment where there is a potential risk of injury to the eye, including dust particles or chemical splashes.

The HSE indicates that “If mains tap water is not readily available for eye irrigation, at least one litre of sterile water or sterile normal saline (0.9%) in sealed, disposable containers should be provided.”

Hazards to the eye can be found in a wide range of environments including laboratories or construction sites and also in everyday tasks including cleaning or cooking.

Following an injury to the eye it is essential that treatment is provided as soon as possible to reduce the risk of permanent injury to the eye. The best way of ensuring this is by providing eyewash supplies in all areas of risk in the working environment.

Which eyewash is best for my workplace?

Eyewash pods

20ml eyewash pods provide emergency eye irrigation in a small pod meaning there is minimal wastage compared to larger eyewash bottles. HypaClens eyewash pods contain 0.9% sterile saline solution that is ideal for irrigating eyes and general wound washing applications. Eyewash pods are suitable for low risk environments where small amounts of dust may come in to contact with the eye. They are a fantastic addition to your first aid kit and cabinet.

Eyewash bottles

HypaClens eyewash bottles are available in 250ml and 500ml bottles. They contain 0.9% sterile saline solution, ideal for irrigating eyes and general wound washing applications. Eyewash bottles are suitable for any environments where the eye may come in to contact with particles, dust, smoke or liquids. Eyewash bottles provide a longer period of eye irrigation compared to the eyewash pods. They can be stored individually, be used to refill an eyewash station or as an addition to your first aid kit or cabinet.

Cederroth Eye Wash

Cederroth Eye Wash is a buffered liquid that works to neutralise the eye’s PH value against both alkaline and acid splashes. Cederroth eye wash gives a quicker and more effective result than 0.9% Saline eyewash in combatting the effects of alkaline and acid in the eye. Any environment working with irritant or corrosive products should always have Cederroth eyewash to hand. Many organisations choose to have Cederroth eye wash alongside their regular 0.9% saline eyewash so that regular eyewash can be used for situations of dust or particles and Cederroth can be saved for situations of irritants or corrosive products.

Cederroth eyewash bottles have a fast twist opening allowing for instant treatment to the eye. Their controlled flow directs the eye wash liquid straight in to the eye with a 500ml bottle providing a continuous wash for approximately 1 ½ minutes.

Cederroth has a range of eyewash products including pods, bottles, sprays and stations ideal for all types of workplace environments.

Eyewash kits and stations

Eyewash kits and stations provide a fixed and visible location for storing your eyewash bottles and pods. Eyewash kits and stations allow you to store multiple eyewash and eye care supplies in a clearly marked case or station ensuring they are easy to locate in an emergency situation. Our range of stations and dispensers include those suitable for storing 20ml pods, 250ml or 500ml bottles as well as eye wash sprays and dressings. Many of our stations include guidance on how to correctly use eyewash and an integrated mirror to assist self-administration.
